The Scimitar Cup Race 3 & 4 will be sailed at Algoa Bay Yacht Club on 3rd March 2018
NOTICE OF RACE
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2017 – 2020.
1.2 The Organising Authority is the ABYC, under the auspices of South African Sailing.
1.3 The Equipment Rules of Sailing (ERS) 2017 – 2020, the Class Rules of the participating classes, the Notice of Race and these Sailing Instructions will apply.
2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
2.1 In accordance with the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Regulation 19 (Eligibility Code), all competitors (Helmspersons and all other crew) shall be members in good standing of a Yacht Club affiliated to and in good standing with South African Sailing or their Member National Authority in the case of non-South Africans. The Yacht Club name and membership details shall be stated on the entry form or crew list. Current valid South African Sailing Membership Cards or similar proof of MNA Membership in cases of non-South Africans shall be presented at Registration.
2.2 Entry Fee of R100 per boat
2.3 The regatta is open to all keelboats with a valid COF.
3 SCHEDULE
3.1 Date of racing: 03 March 2018. Skippers 13h30, with race not to start before 14h00
3.2 Number of races: A maximum of 2 races are scheduled.
4 MEASUREMENTS
Each boat handicap based on ABYC or ORC (if available) rating
5 THE COURSES
The courses to be sailed will be confirmed at the skippers briefing
6 PENALTY SYSTEM
Rule 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One- Turn Penalty.
7 SAFETY
7.1 Yachts shall comply with their class buoyancy and safety requirements.
7.2 Additional safety requirements may be set out in the Sailing Instructions.
8 RADIO COMMUNICATION
8.1 Each boat shall carry a VHF radio capable of transmitting on channels 06, 12, 14, 16 & 71
8.2 Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
9 PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded at the ABYC prize giving 2017-2018
10 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. Neither the Organising Authority nor its officials or other persons associated with the organisation of the event will accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
11 INSURANCE
Each participating boat is encouraged to carry sufficient valid third-party liability insurance to cover any liability arising during the event.
