The Nemesis St Croix Double Handed was sailed on Sunday 17 December 2017 in near perfect weather on an almost soldiers course.
A South East wind greeted the six yachts contesting the Nemeis Double Handed, a low sea mist hid the islands from yachts exiting to the bay from a harbour start. Most contestants made St Croix in a single tack, St Croix to port and then the chase back in a rising wind that peaked at around 17 knots.
Three welcome additions to the fleet were Proteus, with Chris Cox at the helm; Zula, sailing her last hurrah with Rod and Jimmy – Rod left this morning for Brazil; and Skybird, solo with Joseph at the helm.
Zula attempted to put the backmarkers off their game by cooking a chicken curry and wafting aromas down the course, Joseph was game and stayed close to all and his Cape 21 finished 7 minutes adrift of Zula – a Muira.
A cracking day at sea with a cracker of a course, mild sea and awesome breeze.
The close contest was between John Tudehope’s 35 foot Simonis, Wallbanger and Mark Dawson on the J27, J-Sea. Only 16 minutes separated the two finishing times and less than four minutes separated the two on elapsed time. Message to Mark; “It was those silly bugger games with Wallbanger and the flyer South that cost you young Smaak!”.
