5050 worlds

505 Worlds Web site goes live

11 January 2014

The 505 World Championships will be sailed out of the Algoa Bay Yacht Club during March 2015.

In preparation for the 2015 505 Worlds in Port Elizabeth, the South African 505 Class Association will be hosting the 2014 505 African Championships at ABYC from 20 to 23 March 2014.

Find more information about the 2015 505 World Championships on the newly released event web site – http://505worlds2015.com/.

The web site was designed by Mark Biaggio and will eventually include relevant social media channels, regular updates and press releases. You are invited to share  the address with your mates – if you don’t have any then with your significant other!

I have sponsored the server space and maintenance.

To get an idea of what we can expect have a look at this video from the 2013 SAP 505 Worlds Championships in Barbados 2013:

The SAP 505 Worlds Championships in Barbados kicked off on April 27 2013. According to the folks on the ground the sailing is fantastic in the tropical trade winds off the shore of Barbados, the ambiance is fun and the SAP tracing and reporting systems are working perfectly.

On Monday 29th rain stopped all racing but there was lots to do on the island and the sailors and fans took time to mingle and explore. It was a good day to replay the SAP archives and analyze the events, times and tactics. Many stayed close to the bar, which was hopping as the rum punch and banks beers flowed.

The SAP 505 World Championships is officially from April 22 – May 3, 2013 with sailing starting on the 27th on the Caribbean ocean off the Barbados Yacht Club (BYC). The first few days were preparations, measuring and course setting etc. Then Came the Pre-Worlds. Racing started on April 27th and will continue to Friday May 3rd.

Sailors and fans are enjoying the apres-sail ambiance of the custom built 505 club house on the beach of the BYC. The 505 class is a very fast and exciting two man sail boat and the races are all plotted on a 10 foot digital screen in the club house.

The SAP leader board display is a truly lifelike animation of the boats that are tracked via GPS. All of this is also available on the internet. It is so realistic that fans and guest have run outside to try and spot the helicopter that may be taking the live stream. Waves, sea boats and land are depicted on geological backdrop of animation, maps, satellite images and photos.
