This past weekend ABYC was well represented at the George Lake interclubs with 19 of our sailors attending.
The weekend started at Friday midday with fully loaded vehicles towing dinghies, leaving Port Elizabeth for the journey down to Island Lake with some arriving on Saturday morning.
On Saturday we saw winds of over 20 knots which kept the Rescue boats busy as gusts swept through the fleet. Sailor’s skill and stamina were certainly tested and for many it was a disappointing but character building day.
Light air greeted the early Sunday morning fleet and all our juniors were out on the water enjoying what they came to do, sail and have fun. This however was short lived with winds reaching close to 20 knots before the start of the first race at 10h00.
Valuable lessons were learned by the sailors, when to walk away and accept it and when to push on and be surprised.
ABYC’s presence was noticed and we should definitely walk away with the “gees” award. We enjoyed wonderful times around the fire at night accompanied by Michael’s unplugged guitar and great sing-alongs, in the background there was the laughter of Juniors lying outside under a starry sky.

All in all it was a great weekend of sailing and camaraderie. The future looks good.
PS: There was a yellow mirror that went airborne onto a jetty sometime over the weekend.
