The 45th ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship will take place in Langkawi, Malaysia from 27 December 2015 to 3 January 2016 (www.isafyouthworlds.com) and will be sailed in the following classes:
- Boy’s One Person Dinghy
- Laser Radial Girl’s One Person Dinghy
- Laser Radial Boy’s Two Person Dinghy
- 420 Girl’s Two Person Dinghy
- 420 Boy’s Board
- RS:X with 8.5m2 sail and 60cm fin
- Girl’s Board
- RS:X with 8.5m2 sail and 60cm fin Boys Skiff
- 29er Girls Skiff 29er
- Open (girls, boys or mixed) Multihull – SL16
To be eligible for selection to compete in this event the Sailor must:
- Be a South African citizen at the time that the nomination is made Have a valid South African passport at the time of entering the event
- Be a current member of a yacht/sailing club affiliated and in good standing with South African Sailing.
- Be a paid up member of South African Sailing with a valid South African Sailing membership number.
- Be under the age of 19 years on 31 December 2015 (born after 31 December 1996).
- Comply with ISAF regulation 19.2 – eligibility code.
- Comply with ISAF regulation 21 – ISAF anti-?doping policy.
- Comply with the gender requirement of the event and class for which they are nominated. In the case of Open, male or female sailors are eligible.
The SAS Youth Worlds Selection event will take place at Henley Midmar Yacht Club from Tuesday 6th of October 2015 to Friday the 9th of October 2015 with Saturday the 10th of October kept as a reserve day in case of inappropriate weather.
The venue for the selection event has been selected to best mirror the conditions of the Youth Worlds venue and wind speed limitations may be placed in the Notice of Race.
Even though the selection event results will be the main factor considered in the selection, the SAS Selection Panel may exercise its discretion in the case of extraordinary circumstances, or inappropriate conduct of the sailors either on and off the water.
In the case of 420’s, Multihull and 29er if the team splits during or after the SAS Youth Worlds Selection event and one of the team members wishes to continue then special application will need to be made to the SAS Selection Panel. The decision on whether or not to allow this member to retain their position in the SAS Youth Worlds team for 2015 with a new teammate is entirely at the discretion of the South African Sailing Selection Panel.
The selection of SAS Youth Worlds Team for the 2015 ISAF Youth World Championship will be subject to:
- Each Parent or Guardian of sailors completing and signing an agreement with South African Sailing prior to final selection. This agreement must be co-?signed by the Sailor.
- A full commitment to all team training requirements and an on going monitoring of personal competition and training programmes by the South African Sailing High Performance Working Group.
South African Sailing reserves the right not to select a sailor or team in an event for whatever reason. Any decision on the non-?selection of sailors or teams will be made at the sole discretion of the SAS Selection Panel.
The South African Sailing Council will confirm selection of Team South Africa for the 2015 ISAF Youth World Championship as soon as reasonable possible following the selection event.
South African Sailing agrees to provide a team manager and/or team coach to the Team at the discretion of the South African Sailing Council.
South African Sailing will pay for the entry fee for competitors and coach/ manager. The competitors will be responsible for all expenses not covered by South African Sailing above and will be required to contribute to team expenses.
All selected sailors must adhere to the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) www.wada-?ama.org anti – doping regulations. If any sailor is on medication that includes, or may include, any banned substances, it is his/her responsibility to acquire a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) certificate from a registered medical doctor. If any selected sailor is in contravention of the anti-doping regulations, he/she will be excluded from the squad with immediate effect and a replacement may be selected. If a selected sailor suffers illness or injury, he/she may be required to undertake a medical assessment by a South African Sailing approved medical advisor. The sailor may be removed from the team in the event the medical advisor makes such a recommendation.
All selected sailors are required to complete a medical form and submit it to South African Sailing prior to departure for the ISAF Youth World Championship.
In the event of a replacement helm, crew or both being required for any reason, the replacement(s) will be selected at the discretion of the SAS Selection Panel.
Where there is a conflict or dispute in respect of this selection criteria, South African Sailing reserves the right to interpret this document and to use its sole discretion in resolving the matter in conflict or dispute. All sailors who are interested in attending the selection event are requested to send their name, contact details, age, region and proposed class to saswc@sailing.org.za, Att: SAS HP Working Group.
This in no way binds either South African Sailing or the sailor to the event.
In addition it is recommended that all aspirant sailors sail in their Class National Championships, and as many other provincial and club/ regional regattas as possible, in order that the selection committee can get a idea of their standard of competition.
