2016 KYC Inter-club Regatta

22 March 2016

The KYC Interclub Regatta was very well attended by sailors from RYC, MBYC, GLYC and Zeekoeivlei YC. ABYC lacked sufficient numbers unfortunately, so strengthened the RYC burgee. These sailors are full members of both of the yacht clubs and it certainly illustrates our unity for the development of sailing in our region. The winds were light and erratic, with tides have a strong influence. The senior fleet was large and strong. Sigi Bailes reported on the success of the following ABYC sailors:

Hobie Fleet (11 Boats)
3rd – Andrew & Angela Ward – Hobie 16
5th – Andrew & Ashley Bosworth – Hobie 16

Junior Fleet (28 boats)
1st – Cameron Hills – Optimist (1st Optimist with 5 boats)
2nd – Tamryn Bailes – Tera Sport (1st Tera with 10 boats)
9th – Luke Weddell – Optimist (3rd Optimist)
18th – Emma Lukas – Optimist (4th Opimist)

Senior Fleet (42 boats)
11th – Sigi & Jenna Bailes – 420 (2nd 420 with 4 boats)
31st – Charlie Hills – Laser Radial (6th with 7 boats)

RYC Interclub 2016 – ABYC Juniors take title

25 January 2016

After six races sailed on 23 and 24 January 2016, the ABYC Junior fleet emerged victorious to take the Junior Fleet Title.

Four races were sailed on Saturday and two on Sunday.

The Regatta also incorporated the Gypsy Africa’s.

ABYC Sailors acquitted themselves well:

  • Tammy Bailes took 2nd place in the Tera Class
  • Courtney van Wyngaardt received the Optimist Back of the Fleet Award
  • Emma Lucas took 3rd – Optimist Class
  • Cameron Hills 2nd – Optimist Class
  • Luke Weddell 1st – Optimist Class

A hattrick for ABYC in the Junior fleet.

Luke Weddell
First place in the Optimist fleet for Luke Weddell
Tammy Bailes
A second place in the Tera fleet for Tammy Bailes

Our senior sailors, in Gypsies, Lasers and Sonnets took 2nd place overall, a strong performance against the KYS and RYC teams.  All in all a fine set of results for our club, boding well for ABYC Inter-clubs in early April.  A big thank you to all the parents who helped and supported this event.

Other results:

  • 1st Gypsy – Patrick and Andrew Butler
  • 1st Laser – Trevor Kitson
  • 1st Finn – Ralf Hodgen
  • 1st Sonnett – Tim and Bridgett Jones

ABYC Dinghy Sailors Shake Out

3 September 2015

This coming Saturday 5 September, is our Annual Shake out, when we haul out and check on all the dinghies, so that all are in sailing condition for the Sailing Season start on Saturday 13th September (Annual Sail Past event). We encourage all dinghy sailors to be at the Club by 09h30 to help sort out the boats they would like to use for the season. There will be an opportunity to sail the boats as well, weather permitting. Braaiwood is available for those who wish to have a lunch braai.

At 10:00 am, while the juniors are rigging the boats, Ronnie and I would like to meet with all the parents and adult dinghy sailors, to inform you of the clubs considerations for the development of the Sailing School and to make arrangements with you for the interim period, as well as making arrangements up-coming club local and provincial regattas/races.

Look forward to fun day down at the club

29 April 2015

55 dinghies from George Lakes YC, Knysna YC, Redhouse YC, East London YC and Algoa Bay YC enjoyed a fun regatta over the Freedom Day long-weekend.

Joshua Hammerschmidt was awarded the Perseverance Trophy.

Colin Benade & Lauren Hynch (RYC) clinched the Sonnet Inter-Club Series Trophy for Redhouse Yacht Club.

The audited scores for the overall club positions for ABYC Inter-Club Dinghies 2015 are:

  1. RYC
  2. ABYC
  3. KYC
  4. GLYC
  5. ELYC

A big thank you to The North End Powerboat Club who hosted this event, and to all the participants and helpers who made this such a rewarding regatta.
