2015 Prize Giving

8 July 2015

The Algoa Bay Yacht Club prize giving takes place on 18 July 2015 from 18h30 until the last sailor stands.

We will be closing out a sailing season of note and acknowledging sailing members achievements at our gala dinner to which all club members are invited to attend. The prize giving will also represent a good networking opportunity for those who would like to secure slots on boats that are sailing in the 2015/16 sailing calendar.

We have three major events planned – the Vasco da Gama Ocean Race finish, IRC Nationals and Laser Nationals.

Prize giving details:

  • Date: 18 July 2015
  • Time: 18h30
  • Price: R120.00 per ticket and R80.00 per Junior under 13
  • Dress: Smart Casual

Tickets are available at ABYC or by contacting the OFFICE.

Images from 2015 Closing of Season Sail Past

22 June 2015

ABYC closed a successful sailing season with a sail past the President and Commodore who took the salute off of Warrior.

A jam packed 2015 sailing season saw international and national sailors descend on Port Elizabeth to take part in many prestige events including the 60th SAP 5O5 World Championships and the Vasco Da Gama Ocean Race from Durban to Port Elizabeth. ABYC Week brought sailors out en-masse. Attendance at many interclub dinghy championships, ABYC’s interclub at the North End Lake, Wednesday and Weekend sailing sometimes saw sailing activities taking place three times a week.

After the sail past we had a good old natter over a few frothy ones and scared meat into submission on the fire – fun times.

End of Season Sail Past – See you on Saturday

18 June 2015

This Saturday will be our Sail Past, ending our 2014-2015 Season. The Skippers Briefing will be at 11h30, after the closure of the SASEC AGM.

The plan of sail is for participating keelboats and dinghies to meet off Hobie Beach/Shark Rock Pier by 14h00. Keelboats are asked to form formation behind the yacht Fling, dinghies forming a second line (leader will be designated at the Skippers Briefing). We will offer our salute to the Club President and Commodore on the Committee Boat.

The saluting of other boats with water pistols is not discouraged, but please don’t deploy plastic/rubber water bombs as this will result in marine pollution.

We will have at least one safety boat for the dinghies, but if weather conditions are unsafe for junior sailors, we will try to accommodate them on the keelboats. Currently 8kts North is predicted.

As the Prize-giving has been postponed into July, participants are invited to enjoy a bring-braai with the families back at the clubhouse.

Look forward to having you join in this event.
