The National Flag may be flown at half-mast only on the instruction of the office of the President.
- When the National Flag is flown at half-mast, it is hoisted to the truck (mast head), unfurled and then lowered slowly until the centre of the flag is half way between the truck (mast head) and the heel of the flag pole (note: in the case of the pole at the ABYC, where we have a free standing mast equipped with yard arms and a gaff, the flag is lowered one and a half flag’s width, the bottom seam of the flag about 500mm short of the yards).
- When the National Flag is lowered (at sunset or any other time), when flown at half mast, it must first be hoisted slowly to the truck (mast head) and then lowered in the normal manner.
- During the period of mourning when the National Flag is flown at half mast, no other flag must be flown. Except personal pennants (burgees) which must also be at half mast (in he case of the ABYC our burgee should be flow off the gaff, one burgee width down from the point of the gaff.
