This past Saturday was the occasion of the Junior Sailing prizegiving and opening of the season sail-past.
As luck would have it the sail-past was blown out and the President and Commodore (Chris Grylls and Sean Wiseman) came down the slipway channel on a fishing boat from which they took the salute given by sailors massed on the shore.
Thereafter Sailor’s Hour was declared officially open and the fires were lit.
Sailor’s hour will take place in The Bitter End after every organised sailing event at ABYC – yacht, dinghy and radio control – and is only available to sailors who took part in the event. At present it takes the form of a mystery discount on top of your normal member’s discount and the lighting of a braai fire for your convenience. For example – my Quart cost R13.50 during Sailor’s hour yesterday.
The problem with convivial company and and equally great setting amongst like minded people is that one tends to suffer the next morning – a small price to pay methinks for the laughs we had yesterday, though.
My advice to you is to make sure you book your place on a boat so that you can take advantage of Sailor’s Hour this season.
Whoever thought of Sailor’s Hour needs to be rewarded with a beer or three!
