Important Reminder

Reminder to all members who have not yet paid their club fees. Please contact Rodney Idris or Joan Barry to make arrangements for payment.

Upcoming Events:

  • Monday 12th November: BACK TO BASIC’s – Putting the Y back into AB C, a presentation be Exco to members on current and future Club activities and/or requirements. The meeting is at 1800 – ABYC CHARTROOM. This is an informal interactive meeting, and members are strongly encouraged to attend.
  • Tuesday 13th November: Last Ambiton draw for the year, Eric will be singing on the deck. Much thanks is due to Ambiton for their support throughout the year, please show your support by coming on Tuesday night!
  • Sunday 18th November: Shawn will be singing on the deck next Sunday
  • Tuesday 25th December: Christmas lunch pricing has been finalized at R200 per head. More details to follow but Christmas Lunch at the club sounds just too good to miss!

  • Saturday 17/11/12 @ 1300 – Centenary Cup Series
  • Sunday 18/11/12 @ 0930 – Centenary Cup Series (final)
  • Old Salts Race scheduled for 17/11/12 will be rescheduled – watch this space!!!
  • Saturday 17 & Sunday 18/11/12 – New Regatta addition to the calendar – Dingy Fun Regatta: Open to all dinghy sailors. Contact Ronnie Baer

Algoa Bay Yacht Club Pub Evening

Thanks to incredible support from members, the ABYC Pub Evening on Friday 9 November 2012 was a huge success. There was a wonderful party atmosphere throughout the evening and everyone enjoyed themselves. A huge thanks to all who helped to organise this event and assisted with the decorations, it could not have happened without you. However the key ingredient which assured the evenings success was the support of the members who attended. Without your support it would have been a flop.

It was interesting to note the number of non members who were there, let’s hope some of them will decide to join our family at ABYC.

A little bit more about the new ABYC Web Site

The ABYC web site uses a number of publishing platforms and plugins to ensure that members and the general public are kept informed. Underpinning the site is the WordPress Publishing platform. On top of that is the Buddypress Social Networking plugin with various other plugins and widgets giving substance and communicating with members.

Membership to the site is CLOSED to members only. Non-members may not register to use the social networking component.

All members with a valid e-mail address were added to the site manualy and notified via site e-mail of their User Names and Passwords.

If you DID NOT receive an e-mail please send me, Alan, a message containing your Full Name and ABYC Membership number for inclusion on the site – alan[at]abyc.org.za.

Membership on the site allows you to post and reply to events and items of discussion on the ABYC web site. You can also customise your profile by uploading an image of yourself or your boat – please keep it clean.

Some image guidelines:

  • Profile images are best if uploaded size is 250 x 250 pixels and less than 50 kilobytes
  • Other images are best if uploaded size is a maximum of 800 pixels wide and less than 150 kilobytes

Obviously this site is being constantly updated and added to. We rely on you getting information to us for NEWS and EVENTS which can be mailed to Alan or submitted using the SUBMIT NEWS form.

Some News Guidelines:

  • Use PLAIN TEXT to send news – i.e Notepad or some such – NOT Word, PDF’s or Jpegs
  • Cover the essentials – Who, What, When, Where, How
  • Make sure you credit any images and describe them or name the people in them (L-R)
  • If you are unsure about anything – ASK
  • Please don’t be offended if I ask you to; “Do it again!”

Suggestions are always welcome.

Chartroom Restaurant

The Chartroom Restaurant is open to all ABYC members, the general public and also for corporate bookings and evening functions.

Open for lunch and dinner from Tuesdays to Sundays.

Phone 041 585 2893 and book your table well in advance.

Large groups, small conferences and all other celebrations are also catered for.

The setting cannot be beaten – eat your meal overlooking the yachts in the marina.

The Chartroom has an interesting and varied menu for you to choose from, ranging from kiddies meals, to pub lunches, to steaks and seafood fresh from the ocean.

The Chartroom also caters to a host of birthday parties and weddings.

Members get to use the facility at no charge. Non Members are encouraged to support the ABYC Community Sailing Program.
