Bill says; “I enjoyed a meal at your club on Saturday night. On leaving I took a spontaneous picture through the restaurant window. It seems to have worked. You must study it carefully – the reflections, the shadow of me taking the picture, etc.”

The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and it’s simply a nice place to relax and enjoy the sunshine and view of the harbour. I truly recommend this to anyone visiting PE. Though you might have to go a few times to try everything on the menu (it all tastes good!)

Reviewed December 19, 2012 – We were at the restaurant at the invitation of Lloyd from Raggy Charters and it was an excellent way to end a fascinating trip to St Croix island. The fish was very fresh (of course) and delicious, the service attentive but not overwhelming and there was always something to see in the working harbour. You don’t have to be a member to eat in the restaurant. It’s well worth venturing off the beaten track into the harbour.

Reviewed September 23, 2012 – We stumbled on it by accident and we are glad we did! The interior is very basic but the view onto the harbour and the food is great. (Portions is quite generous with a side salad and veggies) You can sit outside (with a bar area) or inside, both has a lovely view. Don’t miss out on the hake, calamari and prawns. It is open from 12pm to 3pm for lunch and 6pm to 9pm for dinner. Remember it’s closed on Mondays and Sunday evenings, but has a live band for Sunday lunch. Don’t miss it while in PE!

Our favourite is the deck burger (either beef or chicken). Not an expensive restaurant, surprisingly, although the lunchtime menu is better priced than the dinner one. Great place for a weekend lunch, overlooking the harbour.

Reviewed April 8, 2012 – We went to this place based on the reviews – and we were not disappointed. Everything we ate was delicious, and beautifully presented. We had the prawns, squid heads, pizza and the parma ham salad. All were great! The 3 brothers were very visible and ensured all service was excellent. John even came out the kitchen to personally explain that he didn’t have fried fish. A great view over the harbour too!

You drive to the PE Harbour, through the security check point (tell the guard you are going to the Algoa Bay Yacht Club or Chartroom Restaurant) and in a few minutes you are sitting on the deck overlooking the marina, watching the seagulls, the ripples lapping around the yachts, and perhaps a curious dolphin (yes, I have seen one), and you’re quaffing something cold and thirst-quenching. Before long one of the friendly waitrons will give you a menu – no hurry – no rush. What will it be? Deep fried prawn, or calamari, or something else as a starter? Perhaps fresh fish as a main, or a pizza, pasta? If the breeze comes up, just go to an inside table at the Chartroom Restaurant and enjoy the view from there – have you ever seen a thunderstorm marching 180 degrees across the sky? Thanks to the three brothers, Jonathon, Nick and Tim, and the great staff including Gerry and Yvonne – you’ll be back, again and again. Like us…at least twice a week….or more!

Head to the harbour and watch the to-ing and fro-ing of the ships in the harbour and the yaghts in the basin … while enjoying a supurb meal at the The Chart Room. Excellent meal and at unbeatable price. Great value while enjoying a great meal. The Chart Room is PE’s best kept secret! Don’t tell anyone!

I find the waiters and waitresses very helpful and friendly. They have a nice menu with steaks, seafood and pizzas on offer. Do yourself a favour and include a visit to this restaurant. There is a check point going into the harbour but just tell them you are going to the Chartroom and they’ll let you through.

A photo that I took the other day of a rainbow going over the clubhouse that may be of interest to you. As they say, a photo is worth a thousand words. Well let me tell you a story about this photo.
Legend has it that there is a pot of gold buried at the end of the rainbow, and who would dare doubt that this is true? Judging by the angle that I took the photo it seems to me that the rainbow goes straight through the roof of the clubhouse and into the Chartroom Restaurant… yes and you have guessed it, straight into a Pot of Gold! I hope there will be few members who doubt that this is the case today. Without the restaurant producing the quality food and service that it does on a daily basis, do you think the club would be such a prosperous and popular place?
Peoples memories are very short indeed. After the passing away of Roy Beatty many others tried to fill his shoes in vain. The restaurant ended up changing hands a few times and after the initial energy thrown at it by the new incumbents, it withered away and slid into another fighting match. Remember when there were only a few tables busy at lunches and even less so in the evenings? Saturday afternoons were a morbid affair.
Since Nic and Jono took control we have seen a massive upsurge in the popularity of the restaurant, followed closely behind by the pub and deck. Lets keep giving them our support and the odd word of encouragement. Niggly little problems always rear their ugly heads, but hey, lets rise above them, no one can be perfect!

The setting cannot be beaten – eat your meal overlooking the yachts in the marina.
The Chartroom has an interesting and varied menu for you to choose from, ranging from kiddies meals, to pub lunches, to steaks and seafood fresh from the ocean.
The Chartroom also caters to a host of birthday parties and weddings.
Members get to use the facility at no charge. Non Members are encouraged to support the ABYC Community Sailing Program.
