24 Hour Sailing Event
Redhouse Yacht Club invites all dinghy sailors to an exciting new fun endurance team sailing event to be held over 24 hrs at the North End Lake. Teams must consist of minimum 6 and a maximum 10 persons.
Challenge is to see how far your team boat can sail in 24 hrs – get your team together now.
Challenge open to GP14, Enterprise, Mirror, Sonnet, Bosun, Gypsy, Sprog and 420 Dinghy classes – using a special 24-hour handicap system. All boats must conform to class rules.
Duration 24hrs : 12h00 Saturday 31 October till 12h00 Sunday 1 November 2015

Why ABYC is the best
Dear Fellow Club Member
It would be remiss of me to not talk about the great debates taking place within our club and immediate environs.
Yes, they do engender emotion and conflict – sometimes very strong ones but, these strong feelings are indicative of a membership body that loves and cares for ABYC and sailing. It is often said that mankind can exist without most things except for love – take love away and we are nothing.
Starting a debate should only lead to greater understanding and better care of the institution that we hold dear.
Debate inevitably leads to compromise and a better understanding of our fellow members. As a gathering of like minded persons committed to getting the maximum enjoyment out of the sport of sailing our club is the body that will prevail long after we have shuffled off this mortal coil. Today’s debates must form part of the strong legacy that we leave behind for our fellow sailors, club, city and country.
We need to be mindful of the legacy passed down to us in the form of our various constitutions that we need to treat as living documents that can only be changed by majority consensus. Democratic process and respect for each other are the hallmarks of a great institution and it is pleasing to see this happening as we move forward in our great quest to support our sport.
A word of advice: When starting a debate everyone needs to state their end goals first – and then all parties can work towards a solution.
At the end of the day all we want to do is:
- Yacht
- Have a natter
- Enjoy the comradeship of like minded sailors
- Feel loved and appreciated
- Be proud of our club and who we are
Have you recently sold your yacht?
If you have bought or sold your boat over the last 12 months, please let the office know with the details of the boat and either your contact details or those of the person to whom you have sold the boat.
The club’s safety officers need this information for the Port Authority, the Marina needs to be kept informed and the Club needs to be able to maintain the boat license and SAS registers as well as being a central contact point should you need to be contacted in an emergency.
Exco Decisions
ABYC Members are asked to please note that any decisions voted on and made by the ABYC Executive Committee at their monthly Exco meetings will be communicated to members via the Halyard and posted on the Exco Notice Board for all to see.
In addition the new Exco for 2015/16 has confirmed that they will continue to Foster Sailing and engage with members and stakeholders in an open manner.
Please check the Notice Board for Exco Decisions made and feel free to ask at the office for previous decisions.
