NOR – Frostbite Pursuit Series Race 2

1. RULES

1.1 The race will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020 (RRS).

2. RACE SCHEDULE

2.1 The series consists of a staggered yacht start according to handicap – see example in Annexure.
2.2 Race dates: Sunday 24 September 2017 (This will form part of ABYC 59th Birthday Celebration)

3. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

3.1 Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted at or before the Skippers Meeting prior to the start of the races. Skippers Meeting at 09h30 of race day.
3.2 Shipping movements and/or weather considerations may change the start, course and finish.
3.3 This NOR can also be construed to be the SI Sailing Instructions – standard sailing regulations will apply.

4. RACE REQUIREMENTS

4.1 Open to all keelboats with a qualified skipper on board.
4.2 Valid COFs required.

5. THE COURSE

5.1 The courses to be sailed will be as follows: Around the Algoa Bay furniture so as to suit the prevailing wind on the day averaging between two and four hours of sailing.

6. VENUE

6.1 Racing will take place off-shore within Algoa Bay, proceeding from the ABYC.

7. START AND FINISH

7.1 Harbour start: the start line will be between the General Goods terminal and the Ore terminal, or as assigned by Race Officer. The start warning signal will not be before 10h00. Start time subject to shipping movements.

7.2 Harbour finish: the finish line will be between green light on the Ore terminal and the ABYC Flagpole. Finish line may change due to shipping traffic.

8. SCORING

8.1 The scoring system is as follows:

Two races are required to be completed to constitute this series.
(a) When only two races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.
(b) When three or four races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

9. SAFETY REGULATIONS

9.1 Check-Out and Check-In Procedures, sign in and out as per normal, and additionally you must enter you boat name on the day of sailing with the Race Officer.

9.2 A boat that retires from a race shall notify the Race Officer as soon as possible via cellphone (provided at Skippers Meeting).

10. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

10.1 Competitors participate in the races entirely at their own risk. See SSR Rule 4: Decision to Race. ABYC and the organisers will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the races. Each participating boat is encouraged to carry sufficient valid third-party liability insurance to cover any liability arising during the event

2016 Rose Bowl Ladies Race

Notice of Race & Sailing Instructions for Rose Bowl Ladies race – Sunday 20 November 2016

1. RULES

1.1 The race will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016.

2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

2.1 Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice board located at the ABYC Clubhouse.

3. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

3.1 Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 09h30 on the day it will take effect, or otherwise conveyed at the Skippers Meeting at 09h30.

4. RACE REQUIREMENTS

4.1 The skipper or person on the helm must be female. (Rose Bowl Trophy Contender).
4.2 Skippers wishing to participate but whose physical anatomy is not of the same design as that of a female, have to dress-up flamboyantly as a female (the mental state need not be the same). (Chick of the Bay Trophy Contender)

5. THE COURSE

5.1 The course will be a harbour start to the Ngqura Harbour entrance port lateral mark closest to PE Harbour and then to a Hobie Beach/Shark Rock Pier Finish.

6. START

6.1 The start line will be between the General Goods terminal and the Ore terminal. The start warning signal will be at 10h00.

7. THE FINISH

7.1 An extended centre line of Hobie Beach Pier, within a hundred metres from the end of the pier. To cross on starboard tack.

8. SAFETY REGULATIONS

8.1 Check-Out and Check-In Procedures, sign in and out as pet normal, and additionally you must enter your boat name on the day of sailing with the Race Officer.
8.2 A boat that retires from a race shall notify the Race Officer as soon as possible.

5.1 This is a medium distance race and may be sailed in either direction around the cardinals depending on the prevailing wind direction and shipping movements. Harbour Start ? Ngqura Port Lateral Mark Closest to PE Harbour ? Bellbuoy ? Harbour Entrance finish.

6. START

6.1 The start line will be between the General Goods terminal and the Ore terminal. The start warning signal will not be before at 10h00. A Rabbit/Gate Start may be used.

7. THE FINISH

7.1 An extended line of the Port Control Tower and the Port Entrance Beacon to within a hundred metres from the end of the breakwater. Finish line to be confirmed at Skippers meeting.

8. SCORING

8.1 The scoring system is as follows: Elapsed time corrected to individual handicaps.

Frostbite NOR and Opening of the Season

The ABYC FROST BITE – Race 1 at the ALGOA BAY YACHT CLUB takes place on 04 September 2016.

NOTICE OF RACE

The Regatta is organized by the ALGOA BAY YACHT CLUB

1. RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2013 – 2016.
1.2 Boats participating in this regatta shall conform to the Equipment Rules of Sailing (ERS) 2013 2016, this Notice of Race, and the Sailing Instructions.

2. ADVERTISING

Advertising is permitted subject to the limitations of ISAF Regulation 20.
Boats MAY be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organising authority.

3. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

3.1 In accordance with the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Regulation 19 (Eligibility Code), all competitors (Helmspersons and all other crew) shall be members in good standing of a Yacht Club affiliated to and in good standing with South African Sailing or their Member National Authority in the case of non-South Africans. The Yacht Club name and membership details shall be stated on the entry form or crew list. Current valid South African Sailing Membership Cards or similar proof of MNA Membership in cases of non-South Africans shall be presented at Registration. N/A, however please ensure both your ABYC & SAS subscription is up-to-date and/or has your attention.

5.1. SKIPPERS: IOhOO – 04 September 2016 – outside Club Ward Room START: Start not before IOh30, but once “Turning” buoys are in place & committee boat is in position. WATCH FLAG SIGNALS. The Official Opening of Season will commence once the boats have Crossed through the Start Gate.

5.2. Measurement and inspection: N/A

5.3. Dates of racing: 04 SEPTEMBER 2016

5.4. Number of races: A minimum of 1 race is scheduled.

11. SCORING: Normal Club Handicap will be applicable, as well as accumulation of points towards trophy

13. SAFETY
13.1 Yachts shall comply with their class buoyancy and safety requirements.
13.2 Youth category competitors shall wear a personal buoyancy aid at all times while afloat in a yacht.
13.3 Wet or dry suits do not constitute adequate buoyancy!
13.4 Additional safety requirements may be set out in the Sailing Instructions.

2016 ABYC Inter-club headed to Harbour

6 April 2016

Algoa Bay Yacht Club invites your participation in the Inter-club Dinghy Regatta, to be staged over Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 April 2016, in Port Elizabeth from ABYC.

Racing will take place within the confines of the harbour as a mass election rally will be taking place at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium adjacent to the North End Lake – resulting in approval being denied to our sailing event by the municipal safety and security team.

We received approval from Port Control yesterday to sail within the harbour and look forward to hosting you.

Please will you extend this invite to your friends and family at other clubs. Please contact Morgan Griffiths should you have any enquiries.

We will need be needing help from parents and novice sailors on the rescue boats and with assisting the dinghies to launch and land. Please notify Morgan if you can assist in this regard.

Our mates over at Ola Ice Cream have made a fun donation to the event – sticky faces, sun and fun.
