WIN in today’s Ray of Light #Cape2Rio Challenge

At 06h30 this morning the Bailes family on Ray of Light had 678 nautical miles to go to the finish in Rio de Janeiro.

Using the tracking page and supplied weather map predict their finish time in Rio de Janeiro – the ABYC member with the nearest to correct answer wins a meal and a bottle of wine for two. If a NON-ABYC member wins then they will get 10% off a membership application.

Dinghy Races 6, 7 & 8 – Saturday 3rd December

With that heat on Saturday, the best place was to be out on the water! Seven dinghies competed in the light Easterlies, this time in the harbour. The courses were short, so that the sailors could work on their start and rounding tactics, in preparation for the national regattas coming up. Below is a summary of the series points.

Centenary Cup Races 3 & 4 – Sunday 4th December

Malgas, Tikkalox and Wallbanger slugged it out on Sunday for round the cans racing in Force 4-5 SW winds. The flat waters made for fast racing, with the crews spending much time out on the rails. With a few protests and counter-protests thrown in back at the Teak Reef, it made for some fun and challenging sailing! The close corrected times speak for themselves.

Rose Bowl Ladies Race Results

The annual Rose Bowl Ladies Race was contested on Sunday 20 November – the course took the yachts and their beautiful helmsmen North along the coast to a mark off of Ceoga.

3.1 Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 09h30 on the day it will take effect, or otherwise conveyed at the Skippers Meeting at 09h30.

4. RACE REQUIREMENTS

4.1 The skipper or person on the helm must be female. (Rose Bowl Trophy Contender).
4.2 Skippers wishing to participate but whose physical anatomy is not of the same design as that of a female, have to dress-up flamboyantly as a female (the mental state need not be the same). (Chick of the Bay Trophy Contender)

5. THE COURSE

5.1 The course will be a harbour start to the Ngqura Harbour entrance port lateral mark closest to PE Harbour and then to a Hobie Beach/Shark Rock Pier Finish.

6. START

6.1 The start line will be between the General Goods terminal and the Ore terminal. The start warning signal will be at 10h00.

7. THE FINISH

7.1 An extended centre line of Hobie Beach Pier, within a hundred metres from the end of the pier. To cross on starboard tack.

8. SAFETY REGULATIONS

8.1 Check-Out and Check-In Procedures, sign in and out as pet normal, and additionally you must enter your boat name on the day of sailing with the Race Officer.
8.2 A boat that retires from a race shall notify the Race Officer as soon as possible.

Marine Notice No. 37 of 2016 – Lifejackets

This Notice is a general advisory notice to the industry regarding the amended process by which lifejackets and buoyancy aids are approved for sale in South Africa.

This Notice also explains SAMSA’s current policy with respect to the use of the new lifejackets and buoyancy aids in lieu of the fact that existing maritime legislation has not as yet been amended to accommodate these new changes.

Surveyors and safety officers must be guided by the attached summary of allowed lifejackets and buoyancy aids listed in paragraph 6 when inspecting vessels for compliance.
