Dinghy Sailing Notice of Race

An all classes dinghy regatta will be held on:

  • Saturday 11 January from 13h00
  • Sunday 12 January from 10h00

Sailing will take place inside the Port of Port Elizabeth

The first weekend dinghy regatta of the 2013/14 sailing season is done and dusted.

Once again I took lots of ‘happy snaps’ over the course of two days and the deal with the images is as follows:

  • I will place images that have been reduced in size on the computer in the bar area
  • You are free to bring your own memory stick and copy them
  • If you want the original images then let me know

Dinghy Regatta Sunday 10 November 2013

11 November 2013

The second ABYC dinghy regatta of the season was sailed on 10 November 2013 within the harbour.

The breeze peaked at around 20 knots from the west south west and the sea state was flat.

Fleet 1 sailed a triangle, sausage, triangle and Fleet 2 sailed a triangle, sausage to finish.

  • Bridge officer: Alan Straton assisted by Natasha van Wyngaardt.
  • Mark Layer: Ronnie Baer assisted by Carl van Wyngaardt.
  • Rescue: James Norman.
  • Results: Hennie Haasbroek

All the Junior Sailing Prizewinners

At the junior sailing prizegiving held on Saturday 14 September 2013, the following prizes were awarded:

Junior Sailor of the Year 2013 – was Awarded jointly to:

  • Joshua Woolard (For his 1st place in the Nations Cup during the 2013 Terra World) and Georgiou Divaris (For Terra Worlds – Overall Winner of Championship, Optimist Worlds – Lake Garda, Italy and 2nd overall at the African Optimist Championships in Mykonos)

The following certificates were awarded:

  • Level 1  – Caydin Haasbroek, Anthony Lightening and Jordan van Zyl
  • Level 2 – Tammy Bailes, Cameron Hills, Bronwyn van Wyngaardt, Chad Bilsbury, Brenden Harvey, Charl Hoogendoorn and Alex Jackson.
  • Sailing School Assistant certificates – Carel Hoogendoorn, Charlie Hills, Chad Jackson and Jenna Bailes.

 Dinghy Regatta Winners:

  • 26 January – Seniors: Charlie Hills (Laser) and Juniors: Bronwyn van Wyngaardt (Optimist) and Tammy Bailes (09’er)
  • 26 May – Seniors: Jim Foot (Laser) and Juniors: Josh Woolard (Terra), Chad Bilsbury (Optimist) and Alex Jackson (Gypsy).

Winter Dingy Regatta

ABYC will hold an end of season dingy regatta on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May.

Racing will not commence before 13H00 on Saturday 25th May.

Racing will not commence before 10h00 on Sunday 26th May

The last race will not start after 14h00 on Sunday 26th May.

Dinghy Sailing Video

See Thomas Ochabski sailing on the Laser (a one man dinghy) and Rebel (a 14 foot locally manufactured and designed skiff) in Port Elizabeth harbour and Algoa Bay. Towards the end of the video the last Laser Fleet race at 2012 Nationals in Swartvlei.
